If you have a persistent fear of an object or situation, so much so that you will go to any length to avoid that situation (even though you know that this response is totally out of proportion to the thing you are frightened of and that in fact you are being completely irrational), then you are suffering with a phobia.
If you can’t avoid the situation that you are fearful of then you will start to panic and become more and more distressed. This is where hypnotherapy for phobias can help.
You are not alone. Phobias are the most common mental illness among women in all age groups and the second most common illness among men older than 25.
Phobias can be very debilitating – even the seemingly simple ones.
If you have a vomit phobia you might be concerned that you may pick up germs and become sick, so you stop going out so you can avoid contact with anyone incase they are ill. You may also virtually stop eating as you are worried that any food might make you ill and you will then be sick.
Again, there is no need to suffer like this, you can be free of these fears by using my hypnotherapy for phobias treatment.
Your reaction to the trigger can be very severe – some or all of the same symptoms as a panic attack:
- anxiety levels increase
- breathing becomes shallow and fast
- heart rate increases
- become hot, sweaty, clammy
- feel sick
- feel trapped
- want to escape
- dizzy, light headed
- feeling out of control, overwhelmed
You will be on the look out for the trigger – the spider, mouse, snake, etc, wherever you are. You are on high alert. And because you are worried that you will react, you then become frightened of the phobia; the fear of the fear.
If left untreated, phobias will often become worse. Your reaction may become more severe, you may be more hyper-vigilant, or your fear may spread to other things e.g. if you are frightened of flying then you may become frightened of motorways or bridges, or if you are frightened of frogs you become scared of lizards or mice.
But you do not have to carry on like this. Help is here. The techniques I use can very easily help you towards a rational response to your trigger, so you won’t be running away from a mouse or a spider, or you can sit comfortably on a plane or a train, or you can use the lift instead of exhausting yourself using the stairs.
The following are a few examples of some common phobias I have successfully helped my clients overcome, but any phobia – however strange – can be helped.
- Claustrophobia – fear of confined spaces
- Agoraphobia – cannot go beyond a certain point – often out of your house
- Fear of flying
- The Dark
- Injections, needles
- White coat syndrome
- Certain foods
Whatever your fear, call me. I can almost certainly help you. And please note that I never, ever expose you to the object of your fear.
